Thursday night will be a busy one in the NHL with 12 games on the docket beginning at 7 p.m. ET. That will give NHL DFS players plenty of options and there will be hundreds of thousands of dollars up for grabs in NHL DFS tournaments and cash games on FanDuel and DraftKings. Capitals wing Alex Ovechkin and Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews will be among the highest-priced options on Thursday. However, affording that kind of star power requires you to find discounted production elsewhere in your NHL DFS lineups. That’s why you’ll want to check out the NHL DFS picks and lineups from DFS millionaire Mike McClure before you lock in your rosters.
McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account. This allows him to find the best NHL DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NHL DFS player.
On Wednesday, McClure recommended Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm for $4,700 on FanDuel. The result? He dished out two assists against the Blackhawks — returning 20.8 points and over 4x value for owners.
For Thursday’s slate, McClure is banking on Lightning wing Nikita Kucherov at $9,300 on FanDuel and $8,100 on DraftKings.
It’s hard to top a 100-point season like Kucherov had in 2017-18, but he’s actually on pace to crush that scoring output in 2018-19. Kucherov has 71 points already in 43 games, putting him on pace for a staggering 135 points this season. That would be the most points in an NHL season since Mario Lemieux scored 161 points in the 1995-96 season. Of course, from an NHL DFS perspective, you’re looking for production on a night-to-night basis and Kucherov has that going for him as well. In fact, he has scored at least two points in eight of his last nine games and has sprinkled in three performances with four or more points during that span.
McClure is also recommending Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler ($4,600 on FanDuel, $5,600 on DraftKings), who has four multi-point games in his last nine tries. In those four games, Edler has returned at least 6x on investment on FanDuel. That gives him a tremendously high ceiling on Thursday night against the Arizona Coyotes.
McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to go off for big numbers because of a dream matchup, and he comes at a price that will leave plenty of salary cap flexibility. Picks like these could be the difference between winning your cash games and tournaments or going home with nothing.
